Passed today with an odd score of 769. Not my best, but I will take it :biggrin

That goes now with my 70-680 and 70-686. On to the 70-642 now, hope to get it done soon!

Well done. How long were you studying for? What resources did you use?

    Thanks, I appreciate it.

I used the MS Press 2nd edition as well as TrainSignal and ItFreeTraining. The whole TrainSignal course was only 50 bucks, well spent I do believe.

    Congrats on the pass!

I've just started working on this exam, using the MS Press book, sounds like I should give TrainSignal a go!

Ive been studying the 70-640 for a couple of months now. Reading small sections of the MS Press book at every opportunity i get and watching CBT Nugget videos on the chapters im reading. Coming to the end of the book now and starting to lose a bit of motivation due to getting bored. Need to change up my studying a bit and make it interesting again. Was thinking of taking a few practice exams to see where i am with it all.

$49 for a month seems quite reasonable from Trainsignal. How did you rate their practice exams? Was there plenty of them and did they give you the correst answers at the end with detailed explanations?

I have to agree. the 640 is a big exam, there is a lot to know that is for sure. The TrainSignal practice exams are designed by Kaplan, they make the Transcender products, so they are pretty good. They do have full explanations for all questions.

Just make sure you know your stuff. I consider my self lucky, I did poorly on the certificates services but did perfect on the AD roles and services and the creating AD objects. Still I only got 769, considering I did well on the the other sections, I think it was tighter that I would have liked. If I had to do it again I would make sure I knew the AD CS much better.

Also I think CBT has their trainging series for $100. James Conrad is very good, I just think that he goes to fast over certain topics, I wish he would slow down a bit.
ITFreeTraining is alright, they just don't seem to do into enough depth I think.

Good luck on your studies, lemme know how you make out.

Yea thats one thing ive found whilst going through the book, i didnt relise just how indepth AD is. Im hoping i can take the exam pretty soon as it seems like ive been going through the book forever but il take a few practice exams and see where i am with it all and hopefully i can get the exam booked and just spend some time brushing up on a few areas.

Ive been lucky enough that whenever problems have arose in our environment with AD over the last month or so my boss has been quite trusting in me and just turned round and said well your the one studying it at the moment, deal with it lol. Have got some good real world experience, for instance the other week one of the guys i work with managed to mess up one of the DC's at our central site, I dont know the full details and didnt dare to ask as my boss was pretty fuming with the guy but i know it was related to our backup software and he went and deleted some of the VM's snapshots which were relied upon.

My boss spent a number of days trying to peice back together some snapshots to be able to get the VM back online. He did in the end and then i noticed a few days later than nothing really trusted the DC and would replicate to or from it. I troubleshooted the problem some more by using the repadmin command and through a bit of searching saw that the only resolution was to remove the DC from the domain, do a metadata cleanup and then re add and promote the server back to a DC. To make matters worse this DC was also our certificate authority so i also had to back that up and then restore it at the end.

Further to this my boss also asked me to deploy Lync in our test environment so i got some great experience and understanding with certificates doing that.

    Fingers crossed.

    First off congrats!

I'm also working on 70-640 atm, using the MS Press book and Boson Exam tests. Lots of content to digest.

For those that are subscribed to TrainSignal do you also get access to their practice exams for the $50/month or are they additional?
