    Hey guys,

I just passed my PRINCE2 Foundation and thought I would share my experience of both the training provider and the course/certification in general.

I took the course after my mate said he was doing it with work, and after talking to him, doing a bit of research on the TP to make sure he wasn't going to get ripped, I thought I would take the plunge and do it myself. I got 2 weeks off from work for Professional Career Development which was nice, so I flew into the UK at the end of last week.

I took it with ILX ltd, it cost me around £500 can't really remember the exact price, but I have to say, as a TP they were fantastic. In preparation they sent me a package with the official manual and a study guide, it was recommended that you read it and do it all to have a rough idea, however, because I'm lazy and in reality, with no experience in a proper project management background, studying the guide, I had no idea really. I couldn't relate or particularly understand the whole thing. So I did little studying. They did send it Next Day with a courier for free after I raised a concern via email that I wouldn't get it far ahead enough of the start day to be able to read it, which was nice.

So I did no studying beforehand which I worried about, I turned up Monday a very nice part of Nantwich along with 13 other people. I was the youngest there by a good 15 years but it was great. 9 - 5 Monday to Wednesday, The trainer really put it into perspective and I think, having no project management experience to "question" what I was learning really helped. I didn't really do any studying or the homework. Lunch was provided as was the exam fee on the Wednesday.

We basically just went through the manual in the three days but I think without the course, I wouldn't of been quite able to grasp the whole thing, and as it stands I got the 2nd highest marks out of the whole group but the exam was fairly straight forward and of course it doesn't make you a good PM, in fact, the exam doesn't really test any in depth understanding of it but that's not to say the course taught up about passing the exam because it really didn't. I feel I've come away with a pretty sound understanding of the whole process, and a lot of practitioner level knowledge too. We also learned quite in depth how to tailor it to large or small projects, which was unnecessary for foundation level as it is not really tested.

This just a quick, and by quick, I mean really really rushed outburst to share my experience. But I can safely say that ILX was a fantastic company to do the course with and PRINCE2 as a whole, I can actually understand and see it's place in any industry, i think it's given me a firm BASE understanding that will enable me to have that extra bit of knowledge if (and I want too) advance into the very first steps of PM.

Thanks mate. ITILv3 Expert is a pretty hefty cert to get, an awful lot of studying involved in it.

It's around 5-6 different exams depending on which route you take, for each one you need to take an accredited course so it's not cheap either! I'm working through the Service Transition one now, going to try and get through one exam per month.

What's next on your hit list?
