I spend a torrid two and a half months locked in the house trying to catch-up being out of the IT game for a few years. Spent a few weeks setting up a home lab and working out what the latest IT stuff was out there and then ploughed through the MS books, CBT Nuggets, labbed everything to death and drove myself crazy. I thought I was too old for all this now but passed it yesterday and I'm elated. Nothing beats the buzz of walking out of that testing centre with a pass ! Onwards to 70-688....

Not half ! It's much harder to pass the exams now but some of the networky elements are exactly the same from NT4 and I remembered some if it.

Yeah networking is pretty much the same (it does after all still follow the OSI Stack) but the way you do things will be slightly different with 2012R2 over NT4.

Yes that's true. When i set up 2012 R2 for the labs and connecting Win 8.1 clients I could do most of it without reading up. The bit that was different from NT4 was the interface and changing the server role and adding the windows features etc. Also the GPO stuff. The NTFS security was the same though obviously. Daft maybe but one thing I really do miss is the sharing hand under the folders ! Why did they get rid ?
