    A Word document that was created on our old domain has been backed up and added to our new domain for everyone to view.

    Every so often, when opening the file, a user (any group, or permissions) will be informed that the file has been locked for editing by a user who doesn't exist in our new domain(although he did exist in the previous one where it originates).

    Any ideas why this could be happening? Apart from this, the document is fine and so is everything else within the folder.

    First thoughts are a permissions/ownership problem??

    You should still be open up the file as read only though, right?

    In this case simply open up the file rename it,delete the original and then change its name back.

    Doesn't answer your question, but solves the problem! :biggrin

    EDIT: Were the PC's removed from the old domain before being added to the new domain? Was there any knid of trust set up between the two?

    Guys,

    The data was being held on our old 2003 domain controller. This particular folder, was availible for everyone to read. It was backed up to an external drive and put on to our brand new file server (and domain).

    Will re-name and go from there.

    Edit;

    Yes, the file can still be opened.

    Thanks
