Recently I've been receiving a lot of nuisance emails from a particular individual whom I no longer wish to have any contact with. She keeps sending me emails despite me dropping numerous hints that I no longer want to communicate with her.

...I know what you're thinking but it's not like that! Really! :biggrin

My email account is hotmail and I'm know how to block emails or designate them as junk. However, I'd like to configure hotmail so that any messages she sends are bounced straight back to her. The problem with simply blocking emails is that the sender has no idea that they've been blocked. Whereas if she receives a return email - like a postmaster general - she'll think that I've closed-down my email account. Does anyone know of a way in which this can be done?

It's just my way of letting her down gently. :dry

Click reply, cut and paste a 'postmaster' style email and then click send.

    Happy days! :biggrin

Yeah do what Sparky says, but sometimes you have to be blunt to people they usually get the message that way.

like above, and you can make an autoreply to submit this for you.

Decent idea, but not sure if you would be able to configure an autoresponder to just one sender though ? Correct me if I'm wrong, of course ... :)

    Message rules in OE
Tools > Message Rules > Mail
    Select
Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line contains people

    Reply with message
catch 22: i *think* OE needs to be on all the time for this to autoreply, as it has to download the email to the client, whether Hotmail itself can configure this, im not too sure.

personally, i'd just block the address

OE hadn't been mentioned, so I was going on the basis that it was just using webmail here. :)

I checked, and you can specify a bounce to a specific sender's address, but not include an autoresponse - maybe half the battle at least, I guess.

Erm but wouldn't it be obvious that it was me who sent the email and not the postmaster general?

I don't use outlook express for emailing. Never have. Haven't got a clue how to use it. Is that lame?

Nope - not lame (tho you should learn how to set up a mail account in a client as part of your general "toolset", but don't fret over it for now :) Check screenshots at modemhelp.net for great guides)

Point is, you're not using OE, so it's not an issue here.

    Live and learn :)

Spoof an email from postmaster at hotmail.com. Not that I support creating unsolicited email, but the odd one wont hurt!
