Does anybody have a simple algorithm to determine what state
a: a compressed file will be if moved or copied to uncompressed and compressed folders on same partition/physical disk and other partition/physical disk.

    b: same for uncompressed file

    ????

Here's Microsofts take on compressed files and the effect of moving them.

As to the room they take on the disk, it all depends on the type of file as to the compression ratio, as some files will compress more then others.

Thanks matey. The 2 rules of moving and copying are the importatnt bits for working it out long hand. I was just trying to find a simple algorithm to help me remember for the exam.

No worries tho and thanks again but I suppose I should have found that page for myself.

    Just remember Mrs P :D
    (Move Retains on Same Partition.)

If I can still remember that little saying 2 years after bagging Pro & Server then it must do the job.

I've a corker of a saying for remembering the OSI model but that is a little bit naughty
