I figured I'd wait until it was official and now it is. I'm going to be a grandfather as of February 15, 2009. That's my son's wife's due date. I counted backwards nine months and figured that she must have gotten pregnant on their wedding night.

I was kind of hoping they'd wait. Basically, she'll give birth and my son will have just enough time to say "hi" to his first child before he's deployed overseas again.

It's really hard to believe I'm about to become a grandparent. I really don't feel old enough (all jokes aside). I have friends my age who are grandparents. Guess it's my turn. Mazel Tov to the parents-to-be.

Amandas brother is about to have his first kid
although, he currently has no job, has not had a job since the conception, and hasn't really looked either, lives at his parents house, with his new live in girlfriend, (not the mother of his child, his ex wife (married for < 6 months)
its like the total polar opposite of us lol, we have been married two years now, and are not planning on kids any time soon

Congrats to your boy mate, and his wife! I am sure they will do you proud, give him another great reason to come home safe and sound! and don't feel too bad about being a grandparent, I'm pretty sure there are 30 year olds around here that are grandparents!

    Congrats Trip ya old Fekker!!

I know its not quite the same, but my Girlfriends daughter is 23 this year and has a 3 year old daughter herself. That makes me her Step-grandad, and i'm only 35!!!

Whats really strange is taht theres 12years 2months difference between me and my Girlfriend (her being older) and 12years excatly between me and her daughter. So i sit neatly in the middle.

My thoughts exactly but I don't think we'll drag this thread down.(as usual  )

Congrats to you and your wife Trip. I'm sure you'll find that it's not as bad a burden as you think. Good luck to your son and his wife too.

    Much congratulations Trip :)

    Babysitting duties abound lol.

Everyone seems to be spouting children at the moment. My brother's girlfriend is due next month, as is my cousin; my best friend has just announced she is expecting (and she thinks it's twins) and another good friend has also just announced she is 'with child'.

Will you all stop it, it's scary!

But seriously, hearty congratulations to you, your son and your daughter in law :)

    Many congrats Trip.

I have a mate whose about 2 years older than me (makes him around 47/48 ish) who has had a grandchild for 3 years now. Remember he told me his daughter was pregnant whilst we were walking down the street and took a few minutes for it to sink in. Had to stop and state the obvious at him in a shocked voice "but that makes you a Grandad!!"

Life just don't stand still does it :)

Thanks, everyone. I'm still in a little bit of shock (probably denial). Since they now live in Oceanside, CA (near San Diego, more or less), babysitting duties won't fall on us or the other grandparents unless the kids visit us in Idaho. Of course, this is my and my wife's opportunity to exact revenge for all the grief David has given us by spoiling our grandkid rotten.

After my youngest was born, I had a vasectomy, basically cancelling any chance of more "accidental" offspring. For those of you who think all this "reproduction activity" is "scary", I suggest you double up on your birth control. It only takes once.

Like having any other woman except just being a bit older. We have things in common etc and that makes it great.
