Did not come here first as i had a statement to make about MMC's being built into the AMD chips as opposed to being on the Northbridge with Intel.
    So, yes, hello.
I, too, am studying for the A+ and i am glad i made the choice to go with Mike Meyers book all on my own as it gets good reviews here. Shame on me for doubting my choice but i felt it was right.
Now i just need more material as i am through the book and need more. I hear you guys talk about the Transcender books. Anybody got a ling for me please?

    Welcome to CF !

Transcender are not books, they're practice test questions, for when you feel ready for the exam. I would recommend them but maybe not at this point by the sounds of it. Maybe grab an old PC and rip it apart? Get your hands dirty with a hands on approach usually helps...

They are well known for their questions, however they also do study guides in .pdf and printed format - so in essence book format.

The Meyers book is one of the best resources for the A+ that you can get (but it's not the only resource you can use). There are alot of good quality practice exams that you can use: Transcender, Preplogic, Boson, Measure-up, etc

Couldn't have said it better myself :)

I have been using Pc' since the early days of the 8088 and have been taking them apart ever since. Being an avid gamer i have had to deal with 3.1, 95, 98 and 98 SE, skipped ME altogether and jumped to XP. During that time i have built my own computers with parts that i have bought, fixed mine and other peoples problems and dealt with personal networks. I have been the so called "go to guy" when things go wrong for people for years so this is just a natural progresssion for me. I find the Mike Meyers book to be a bit light on technical knowledge. Not that there is not much there as the book is filled with stuff from top to bottom but i find the light hearted approach unlike any schoolbook i have ever dealt with.First time time through the book i was able to answer the chapter questions with %80-%100 accuracy and now am able to answer the CD questions with passing grade. I just need to get more stuff to practice with. I am confident with the hands on stuff now i just need more theoretical material to deal with.

Sounds like you could take the A+ exams now :)

As for the MMC statement you made Yes you were technically correct but I had put it down as I had broke it down into stages, so I was correct too :)
