new dvd drive

I have installed a new dvd drive into a pc but it doesnt want to work for some reason. It is connected into the power ok as the drawer opens and i have lights on, it also appears in deivce manager which would suggest the sata cable and port are ok, but it will not play any cd's or dvds. anyone any idea?

What operating system are you using? If windows, you could try right clicking the dvd in device manager and selecting uninstall, then reboot. Ive have solved a similar issue to this before by uninstalling.
