As the title states, there has been some new developments in my IT career. I recently interviewed for a position of a Technical Consultant and found out today that I got the job!

Basically this job is the step I've been needing to take to get to where I ultimately want to be, which is in Architecture of Storage, Vmware, and messaging. The job in itself is pretty much like a pre-sales technical consultant where I meet clients and introduce them a solution that would fit their needs. I would also be supporting other clients as well when it comes to Networking and System admin stuff...

This is a great opportunity for me as it will give me the training and skills I need to get to where I want to be.

Looks like I'll be starting with Cisco (CCNA) first as they've asked me to pursue it. Most of their infrastructure and clients infrastructure is CCNA so I better get on that.

On another note, the certifications that I have definitely played a big part in me getting the job, because its an IT consulting firm, a lot of the partners and clients are looking for certified individuals. I guess I'll be getting a few certs soon!

    Thanks guys!

Honestly, I am really happy about this. I pictured myself doing this kind of work, but down the line and not now... So when I saw the opportunity I went for it. I was very honest on the interview told them my strengths and weakness and they seem to see a lot of potential in me I guess. I would start working on VMware and storage technologies soon as I am new this, but I will definitely learn this stuff fast, I am really interested in it.

You know, you're absolutely right! CF has been a great support system, I've learned a lot and I still learn something every day. One thing I realized, is that there is no set path on how to get to where you want to be, you make the path. What works for one person, might not work for another.

Tell me about it I think in the last few years I've had a few jobs and only now I've settled in Wintel do I feel happy...... for now! ha ha

I've learned a lot here myself. I might fancy pre sales one day, just so I can kick Craigie's butt and rob all his clients, man hope he doesn't read this.....

    Scouser and robbing, calm down!

If you love IT, love designing solutions, love writing project plans and handover documents then pre sales is the way forward.

Plus it seems to pay the most money 8)

Ha ha he know's I'm only jesting, Pre Sales is an awsome role and like you say, I reckon our Craigie is gonna be kick a$$ at it but don't tell him I said that or he might get lazy/lazier

So Pre Sales, I know in a nut shell what it is, you go to a customer, they tell you what they would like, you tell them what can do the things their asking for, or think they are asking for. Who sets that up? Is that part of the bid process? I mean if you already have the contract additional business I'd imagine comes to you but are pre sales integral to the bid team trying to win the contracts?

Mate, its all about the wallop factor.

You listen to what the clients business needs are, discuss RTO and RPO with them for mission critical applications and then design a solution based on there budget.

The best bit, is presenting back to the client, I love the sound of my own voice LOL
