What software do you use when producing Network Diagrams?

I'm interested in obtaining one, any advice would be appreciated.

Ken beat me to it !

    Yes, fairly easy to use.

Have a look here as it shows some network diagram templates and from here you can pick up product info and demos etc. (see menu on left hand side)

theres also an opensource network diagram package called dia that you may want to look into, granted its graphics arnt as purdy as visio but if its just for a personal network diagram then it shouldnt really matter!

You guys have too much time :D... I introduce you to 'The Dude' ^... along as you set up the SNMP it does it all for you. Although watch out if you have a non technical IT Manager (like this never happens ) if something is set to send emails via SMTP to report its being raped! You will have a nice long chat with your manager (in non tech terms *sigh*) trying to explain to them that your network is not getting 'raped'.

p.s. just worked out my VPN set up for 70-291 in my vm lab :)

I hate to admit it, but Visio seems to be the best. I've tried dia, but it just doesn't produce a professional quality diagram. Never heard of "Dude", hippy. I'll have to have a look.

I'll agree with you trip but its an option if you just want a sketch of your own network for your own notes. Then I suppose if you only want it for yourself then a set of pencils and an A4 sheet of paper would be better!

We have used "the dude" here as part of our recent documentation project he to be fair he is very good and produces some nice diagrams. Produced some lovely AD integrated stuff which was great as it stopped me having to worry about it.

I've never really had use for any of them before in the past. But now I'm learning about SQL and database design I'm probably going to purchase myself an Entity Relationship (ER) program, most likely Visio.

Visio here too... I also use it for process mapping. And, you can even use it for mind mapping. All good fun!
