MSCONFIG question

I'm playing around with optimizing XP services (part of a job I'm doing tonight) and I ran MSCONFIG and got into the start up tab. I disabled "RealPlay" from loading on start up and restarted the machine. After Windows loads, I get a "nastygram" from the OS saying that I'm in diagnostic mode and to reenable the loading of RealPlay and restart. The thing doesn't want to let go. Whassup?
