I have just been given full access to the servers in my roon with admin privelages :blink I am not sure what to think actually it's a bit daunting. Although I have worked with these servers for years and do most of the configuring and setting up myself I now have full blown access.

I just hope it doesn't mean I have to be in work more, I am here enough as it.

First thing I am gonna do if I am allowed (need to check) is set the network drives so they can't be deleted as some ***** the other month put one in the recycle bin and the folders etc needed rebuilt which was a pain in t arse.

This is weird, I never expected this when I came into work today.

forgot to add the new system I have been working on for months with the opteron servers went live for proper today too.

    Cheers

Well I said to IT it was their fault for having it so people could delete network drives and it's shouldn't be so easy for the numpty's in the offices to do so.

Well I be damned, I have never heard the word numpty used in that context before apart from my colleague who uses it to continuosly describe our users.

yeah sos I actually meant the user whoever it was (not been told) deleted the drive and contents and everything went from the network apart from one file which was in the bin. That's why it needed rebuilt from the bottom, IT still havent told me why this is possible so thats why I am gonna make it impossible.

Have you ever had to phone or email MS to re-license a product?

This is my conversation with a customer in relation to an email that had been deleted from a Public Mailbox.

Me: So an email has been deleted from a Mailbox X.

Customer: Yes, the Mailbox keeps deleting emails as we never see them.

Me: Can we test this. Can you send an email from your account to the Mailbox.

Customer: OK (send email which works fine).

Me: Well that seems to work, do you have any Rules applied to this folder.

Customer: No, what are they (so I explain them and there are none on the Mailbox).

Me: So this email, could it have been deleted by one of your colleagues?

Customer: No, I have asked them all?

Me: Really, over 50 people have access?

Customer: Well, I have only asked the people next to me as we are the only people who use it.

Me: OK, where did this email come from originally?

Customer: From a company called X

Me: Right so the email was sent from outside of our network to us and no one has seen it and you think the Mailbox has deleted?

    Customer: Yes

Me: Have you recieved a Non Delivery Reciept?

    Customer: No

Me: OK, I think we need to get company X to send some test emails.

Customer: What about the emails that have been deleted?

Me: Well, when where they recieved?

    Customer: Don't know

Me: Well how do you know they have been sent to us?

Customer: Because Sue told me from company X.

Me: Right, can we do that test please.

lol, I now have a fun evening ahead  I have just been given a set of 27 discs with drivers on them that I need to put onto the new system however I have just been told that I also need to update those drivers to the latest versions and that a few of them need the previous version before it can be updated. So if I want to update to driver 1.7 I must update it all the way to 1.6 first, for somereason I can just update it from the first version to the last :x

    LOL!

These calls end up with me as supposidly its a 3rd line issue.

I phone the user, do exactly what you have just posted, and then get the user to send an email to the external address with "test, please reply" in the title.

The other person then replies and the user gets the email, so inbound and outbound works. I then check the audit log on the address and discover that only one email has been received (the test one).

    Resolution: user error

Then I call the guys in first line and shout at them! :biggrin

Do you have a valid license? If so just phone MS and say you need to reactivate the product (just say it was a failed HD and you are reinstalling) and they will give you a code.
