Hi there. Where can I sit 20-271 exam in Newcastle? There's a post in this forum - october 2008 - regarding the fact that Prometric has closed its testcentre here. And Pearson Vue does not have Microsoft exams listed on their website???? I know there is a Prometric exam centre nearby in Sunderland but are there any alternatives in Newcastle??

I don't know where your nearest Prometric is but I can tell you its the same in Liverpool. I have to drive to Wigan to sit my exams now :( Prometric is the only place that does Microsoft Exams I'm afraid

I think I'm going to sunderland. It's closer and cheaper to get there. Thanks for the tips, dudes.

I now regularly have to drive 25+ miles each way to find a test centre.

Also virtually none of the test centres offer out of normal business hours service, which to a busy IT person is pretty essential.

    The current situation is nuts.

MS should allow you to test at Pearson Vue as well as Prometric test centres like they used to.

They should also allow the test centres to make some money, and encourage more to open. They should also encourage test centres into opening for more varied hours.

Mind you all of this is pretty academic given the rampant BDing going on, I regularly see people from certain particular countries with every single CISCO (yes including CCIE) and MS cert under the sun plus a few more like RHCE.

Ever wonder why the OU only gives credit for CCNA when its done through them ?

MS's answer seems to be new certs that cost £4k - £15k, nice...

Roll on next year and I'll start my MSc, I'm even considering removing my certs from my CV...

Hi DMarsh, the testing locations are a nightmare aren't they. I personally think the Prometric website is a nightmare too. It would be so much better if instead of giving me 6 pages of testing centers to choose from, they gave me a google map with some pins stuck in it, don't you think?

The more and more time goes on the more tempted I am to do my masters. What would you do yours in Marsh? I'd love to do an IT Security degree at Liverpool but it was about £14k!!! I might approach my employer for sponsorship and see what they say

Good luck for the exam :)

I until recently, I had to drive about an hour to get to a Prometric testing centre, I agree, they should start using Vue again.

Hopefully, if all goes well, I'll be starting my MSc (or at least a PGCert/PGDip) in two years time - hopefully... Good luck with yours :)

Its an A1 idea, Pearson Vue at least do a closest match on postcode, Prometrics site is simply lame. A google mash up should be a no brainer for them.

What are you going to do yours in Ken? At a local uni?

Ideally I'd love to take a year out to do one full time but who can afford that

I think I'll write to them because its a piece of slash to set up. Even the layout of how you schedule an exam on Prometric is a load of pants if you ask me :x

Either at University of Northampton (the MSc in IT Service Management) or at Tresham Institute (if they get University status and offer a MSc in IT or a related field).

Na, couldn't afford full time either. Currently part-time in the evenings at my local Uni are cheaper than the OU.

Cheers Ken, all this talk of masters has got me thinking. I'm loving my cert track at the minute but once thats done I've decided, just now, I'm going back to Uni. IT Service Management looks really interesting mate, our top bosses have similar and its done them the world of good to be honest.

I'm lucky because my company paid for my degree and if I climb a job higher I think they will pay for my MSc :biggrin If I do get promoted it would probably change what I wanted to do my MSc in. I'd like to do IT Sec but something similar to yourself would probably benefit my career more if I go past Team Leader where I'm at now.

Fingers crossed I get the job I'm going for so I can stay a hands on techie  and swerve the management route.

Seem to have a reasonable rep from the searching I've done and a lot of the staff are BCS supporters too.

Booked the exam for the 16th of June. Been studying for the couple of months, and it has been hard. But hopefully it'll be ok. Even if I fail it's not the end of the world. I would like to thank this forum for being cool and helpful with newbies like me. Right on, dudes!
