    Hi all,

I am thinking of doing Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) Certification but I am confused as there are three lanes,

    Code:
    Professional Developer: Web Developer
    Professional Developer: Windows Developer
    Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer
I would like to know which lane is the best and most required.
Which type of application (Web or Windows or Enterprise Applications) is most developed in the IT industry so that I can do certification for that lane.

    Please suggest me.

    Welcome to CF! :biggrin

To put it simply, all of them are best. It depends on you as the individual what you feel comfortable doing that should determine which certification route you take.

Why not pop over to the New Members Forum and introduce yourself properly, tell us a bit about yourself. If we know what your background is then we may be able to offer better advice.

Hey simongrahamuk thanks for replying :)

I am comfortable in developing both web as well as windows applications. But confused in the certification part.

Primarly I am a Perl based webdeveloper in my current organization which is my main job and have developed small windows application.

Now I think you all including simongrahamuk can suggest more easily.

Well, having just looked at all three of the different Professional Developer certs I notice that for all three of them you need to have passed 70-536 so regardless of which route you choose to take I'd suggest that perhaps this Technology Specialist exam should be your starting point.

IMHO there is no 'real' answer to this question. The main reason is that the "IT Industry" is not a cohesive whole, but a vast conglomerate of disparate bits, where different companies have different agendas.

The way I would answer the question would be to consider the following:

    1) Which interests me most?
    2) Which interests my company most?

    Yup I noticed that :tongue

Hmm hbroomhall, I think I should take the web developer lane then go for the windows developer lane. What do you all think ?

    This has come up before.
Why are you going for the new certs?
Is it just because they are new? Why not go for something well established where you can get loads of help, advice and resources. Most industry professionals haven't taken the new exams yet so you're in trouble if you get stuck.
    What's wrong with an MCAD?
