Jim and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day, while they
were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly decided to jump
in at the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool.............. and
stayed there, so Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the
bottom and, after a struggle, pulled Jim out of the pool.

When the Head Nurse became aware of Edna's heroic act, she immediately ordered
that Edna be discharged from the mental hospital, as the Head Nurse now
considered Edna to be obviously mentally stable.

When she went to tell Edna the news, the Head Nurse said: "Edna, I have
some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you're being
discharged. Since you were able to respond rationally to a crisis by
jumping in the pool and saving the life of another patient, I have
concluded that your act displays soundmindedness. The bad news is that
right after you saved him, Jim hung himself with his bathrobe belt in the
bathroom. I'm so sorry, Edna, but your friend Jim is dead."

Edna replied: "Jim didn't hang himself - that's where I put him to dry.
So, how soon can I go home?"
