Well, after a few nice/greats months of not studying, it looks like I'll be studying for the 70-630 (TS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring). Not sure if I'll take the exam though... Two reasons for doing this, and they're both work related:

    1. The school is going down the route of a VLE (Sharepoint based), this may or may not be hosted on site &

    2. I have to build & configure a Win 2k8 & Sharepoint 2007 server that links into our MIS system (I'll configure the server & Sharepoint, then I'll work with the external engineer to make the link - that'll be interesting). This will be used by 70-80 staff members with the possibility of parents and students, oh joys...

Will keep you guys updated :)

    So far on Friday:

I've installed a Windows 2008 and Hyper-V on a brand new server, then installed a virtual Windows 2008 server & joined that up to the domain (after remembering that I had to turn on virtualisation on in the BIOS  ). I have done all the updates and tried to installed MOSS 2007, guess what it failed. In order to install MOSS 2007 on Windows 2008, I needed to install MOSS 2007 with SP1 integrated. Downloaded that and currently is waiting for me to arrive Monday morning in order to start installing MOSS...

    Oh the joys...

You should look at BM, his cert list makes little babies cry

Besides, if I have the learn about something, implement and configure it - provided that I meet the objectives, why not? And that's what I'm going to find out :D

Hazard of the job, my friend... :) Just give the kid a pacifier, and he'll be OK. :ma :biggrin

Yeah, I'm the same way... if I've already done something, why not certify on it?

So far I've been using CBTNuggets which is very, very good - this was bought a little while ago. Still waiting for this book: "MCTS - Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Configuration Study Guide: Exam 70-630" (I choose super saver delivery as I bought this with my own money instead of thu work).

So far things that I've run into:

    1. Adding .Net 3 framework as a feature in Windows 2008 (forgot about that from when I did the Windows 2008 exams  )

    2. Choosing between SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 - went for SQL 2008, just because I wanted to... Make sure you create a "Sharepoint Service Account" in AD and then give them the extra roles of dbcreator & securityadmin in SQL Management Suite.

    3. Installed MOSS 2007 x 4 due to:
    a. First time: I just installed it as how I thought it was work - WRONG (this was the first time I installed MOSS 2007 though), uninstalled...
    b. Second time: I used a mixture of Domain\Username and full UPN's - WRONG, just use Domain\Username other when it comes to building the SSP it will fail on username (it will try to find a user in the format Domain\UPN which doesn't exist), uninstalled...
    c. Third time: Would not let me create a top level site as one already existed. So uninstalled MOSS 2007 for the third time, but this time I also deleted the Sharepoint related DB's that existed in SQL (I believe this is were the problem laid).
    d. Fourth time: Success :biggrin

Rang up the MIS engineer about the integration between MOSS and the MIS system, this will start on Thursday... We'll see if everything is ok for then. All I have to do now is get an external IP, a SSL cert and a sub-domain :)

The MIS engineer did the pre-work check and everything passed, which was great. So the integration will start on Thursday and end on Friday.

Just received the MCTS book by James, my eyes almost popped out when I saw how thick it was. But then again, maybe all the other books were that thick I just haven't studied in a while...
