This started last night when I went to leave work. Dell inspirion 8200 running XP Pro. I go to Start, Shut Down and then select Shut down and click ok...it ignores me...just as if I never gave the command. Won't shut down for love or money. It will go into hibernate mode which is how I transport it from place to place. The only other recent weird symptom is that when I go typing along on the forums, email, in a document, suddenly, my cursor is at a different part of the screen. When I am in IM, my window will suddenly minimize when I am typing. Any ideas gang? Thanks.

Only thing I've come across approaching this is a poorly written driver that prevented a shutdown but W2k did manage to let me know what was preventing the shutdown.

Bad driver sounds likely - how does it behave in Safe Mode, Trip ?

Also, maybe run a registry cleaner ?
