    Sure, I suppose working as a tech in a computer store could be another alternitive to helpdesk work.
    Good experience for the A+

    IT Technician at a school or in a company. Can be quite diverse.
     
    Certifications: MCSE, MCP, MCDST, MCSA, ITIL v3

    Yes, while helpdesk is the most common, there are entry level jobs as Junior/Trainee IT technicians, junior/trainee workshop technicians, etc.

    Yep! I started out as a Field Service Tech, doing onsite PC and printer jobs (and the occasional server job, once my employer allowed me to do so).
