The Case for Working with Your Hands: Or Why Office Work is Bad for Us and Fixing Things Feels Good: Amazon.co.uk: Matthew Crawford: Books

One of the best books I've ever read.

I think IT is in some ways a hybrid - it is work related to the 'office' environment, but is also a form of engineering, requiring practical skills.

Computing ranges from the practical such as PC building and trouble-shooting right through to the abstract, almost mathematical, thinking required in programming. And also, computing is partly an art and partly a science, eg especially in web design or in computer games can this can be seen.

I wonder what IT people think about this idea that 'Office Work is Bad for Us and Fixing Things Feels Good' ?

For anybody interested in the work environment, and what types of work are good or bad for us, this book is truly outstanding - I could not recommend it enough.

Question is - what are the good and bad things about IT work ?
