I think I mentioned that last Friday, I had an interview with a recruiter who had a desperate need for a Technical Writer to step in to a three-month contract (the previous writer had to leave suddently) and take over the project.

I had a phone interview with the hiring company this morning (less than 20 minutes) and fully expected that, if I'd made a good impression, I'd be called in for a face-to-face interview tomorrow.

Lo and behold, the recruiter called back a few hours later and said the hiring company wants me to start Wednesday morning. Of course, I was only competing with one other writer, but I guess I made an impression.

The project goes through June but of course, like all contract jobs, it has the potential to be extended. None of the other jobs I applied for have gotten back with me and I've been dogging their heels with no results, so I guess this is it. Here's the company's website:

    http://www.keynetics.com/

I'll be hip deep in software developers again. The commute won't be so peachy this time, but it is near downtown and right on the Boise river, so it will be scenic.

    Here we go again.

Got back from signing the paperwork not too long ago. Don't get *too* excited. In June, I might be right back where I started from...unemployed. We'll see if this opens up further opportunities or if it's just a stop-gap measure.

Perhaps - but you have time to look for work later this year, while being paid!

I'm supposed to show up for work tomorrow at 9 a.m. to do the initial "meet and greet". That means my 3rd day at work will be Friday, so I can post my "report" over the weekend.

Incidently, I talked to another recruiter for one of the HP jobs I'd applied for. Turns out the hiring manager didn't choose *any* of the CVs sent over for interviews and reposted the position. Apparently, there was some key element missing from all of the candidate CVs that wasn't communicated to the recruiters at large. Go figure.

Well done!! I hope the first day good!

Silly with the other job - there have been a few jobs like that over this end of the world!

One was posted on all the sites months ago (when I went for it), and it keeps getting re-posted with the skill requirements getting more and more specific - they have interviewed loads of people / times and the agency who alerted me to it say they've still not found the "one"

    Take care

I know I can't give my "official" report until after day three, but I really like the place so far...and I'm a little scared. The previous guy (who apparently had to leave in a hurry) did most of his work in MS Office 2007, particularly Word and PowerPoint. However, in this case, those aren't the best tools to do the kind of work required in. I talked to a few people, and basically, he was allowed to use the tools he felt most comfortable in. Issue is, they aren't *my* most comfortable tools.

I can't go into details yet (I'm still doing the research), but it looks like I'm going to make a few suggestions...especially after talking to one of the developers) tomorrow. Not sure how this will all work out yet, but if it goes the way I hope, this could be a pretty good opportunity for me to not only have a good job, but to learn a lot of things that I've been wanting to and planning to learn anyway.

Let's just say that this company isn't exactly a "Microsoft" shop.

I'll let you know when I know more myself.
