After previous discussions this week, I decided to try a return to my roots, and get san andreas and the orange box for my pc.

I'm having some problems though. Nothing major, but annoying.

I'm getting glitches with both the sound and graphics on HL2 (and portal). If I move quickly, some sections of the screen dont seem to update fast enough. There are also some static from the sound, catches in the audio.

Running the game on a PC with 4GB RAM, an 8800GTS 640MB Graphics card, using the onboard sound. Set the game to run at the native res on for the monitor (1440x900). Suppose I might have to drop that down a little.

    Any suggestions?

onboard sound is often an issue for gaming, as its quite frankly mostly ****e
it uses CPU resource and has poor driver support

i'd say your CPU and res are fine
I run at 1920x1200 and get no issues with a simialr set up

I agree with Phoenix on the sound issue. With the graphics try dropping the res (maybe the GPU doesn't have full support). I only have an 8600GT 256MB graphics card I run most games at 800 x 600 except crysis which runs with hardley any jibberring at 1024 x 768.

Sometimes fiddling about with the graphic settings is all thats needed and stopping unneccesary programs that can be running in the background can also help.

Another vote for sound. Always been a big Creative Labs fan.

I'm sure you've already done so, but get the latest drivers for your video and audio, and Google around to see if anyone else has had the same problem. Occasionally there will be patches available for people with particular issues.

yeah, sound is crappy. But I can deal with that.

Actually, the graphical glitches only seem to occur in portal. HL2 is fine. strange.
