It's amazing what you can find in used book stores...

So the GF was working late tonight, at a loose end I dropped by the local charity shop for the Humane Society (it's next to the Thompson's home depot store on the roundabout if anyone wants to know) and took a look in the book shop.

Most of the computing books were old For Dummies books, but lo and behold I found a 2004 print of Exam Cram 2 (MCSE Exam 70-290). It is in pristine condition and the free PrepLogic CD is still sealed in the packet! It was on sale for CI$3 but all this week they have half price off of EVERYTHING in the store! So I picked that up for CI$1.50!!! I'm going to use that as a casual side-study read to pick up once in a while on my way to that prized MCSE status!

I even got (and this is the best thing you'll ever hear) a pristine copy of FATHERHOOD by BILL COSBY! Oh yes!!!

Picked that up for my friend for his birthday as a joke present. Also picked up the following:

    1. Bill Cosby - Fatherhood (paperback. first edition too! surely a legendary purchase no?)
    2. Tom Clancy - Rainbow Six (Giant, enormous, super huge hardback edition)
    3. Michael Chricton - Next (Giant, enormous, super huge hardback edition)
    4. Scott Adams - Dilbert: Fugitive From The Cubicle Police (Tall, grande paperback edition)
    5. J.R.R. Tolkein - The Lord Of The Rings (enormous, takes 5 men to lift it complete trilogy in 1 paperback)
    6. Michael J Fox - Lucky Man: A Memoir (paperback edition. i already have this in storage back home in hardback but hey, it was 75 cents!)
    7. Frank McCourt - 'Tis (paperback edition, the deluxe one. Angelas Ashes is one of my favourites so had to get this)
    8. Bill Bryson - The Life And Times Of The Thunderbolt Kid (nice paperback edition)
    9. Carl Hiaasen - Double Whammy (Paperback. One of my all time favourite authors, another to add to my collection!)
    10. Scott McLean - Secrets From The Vinyl Cafe (hardback edition. curious to see what this is like, random purchase. heck it was CI$1 so I thought i'd splash out!)
    11. Tony Hawks - Round Ireland With A Fridge (paperback. sounds funny. the GF is Irish so got it mainly for her)
    12. Irvine Welsh - Porno (paperback. random purchase)

How much do you think that little lot all cost?

    You're all wrong!

    CI$18! (about US$23)

Bargain! I'm hoping more of those MCSE books filter through, i'll be watching those shelves like a hawk!

I usually just donate all the books I'm done with to my local library. Since I review a large number of IT related books, they really "score" from time to time.

That's a pretty nice find. Good effort! I wish my copy of Fatherhood by Bill Cosby was signed!

Has anybody else come across buried gems (not just books I guess) at their local charity/thrift store? I know Fatherhood by Bill Cosby is impossible to beat but it's still nice to hear your stories. :)
