    Hi all
    I’m in the market for a new tablet device as my ipad3 is getting on a bit now to say the least and it’s quite heavy. I’ll be travelling more and I don’t use my works laptop for anything but business, so I’m looking for something with a good enough spec to last me a few years, preferably light and slim, potentially with a keyboard and pen.

    Does anyone have any recommendations for me please? iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface spring to mind but I don’t know if they’re worth the cost, although more power should hopefully mean I get longer out of it.

    All I’ll be using it for is surfing, Netflix, pluralsight, o365 and perhaps the odd game

    Thanks
    Jim

    Hey Jim, work provided me with a SP4 and I love it, however I also own the SP2 and an iPad Pro 10.5.

    If all you're using it for is stuff then quite honestly going down the iPad Pro 10.5 route is going to be cheaper and more convenient for you, you get longer battery life, you're not worried about constant Windows upgrades and have just as many keyboards / extras as you would ever need.

    Add to that if you do long haul you can charge the iPad from the chair, you can't do that with a Surface Pro.

    I moved from an iPad Mini 4 to the Pro and at first I wasn't sure but now I wouldn't be without it.

    I am still using my Surface Pro 2 – great to take on the road and doesn’t take up too much space.

    Wireless mouse is always handy as well if you are using it for a few hours.

    @Sparky @SimonD
    Thank you gentlemen, the SP's do look great but I've got a new macbook pro from work that I bootcamp with Win10. No touch screen sadly but PC wise its mega thin with a good battery, i7 Kaby I think, 16GB, 1TB SSD etc so speaking it through with you guys, I think I've realised the SP isn't for me on this. Simon you've sold me on the iPad pro 10.5 mate as I hadn't considered being able to charge it any old place, maybe even from the usb in my car if times were hard, that's probably going to be what I'm after I think with the right level of power but obv not a gaming machine other than what ever film angry birds are doing now ha ha

    I did check out the likes of Samung and co with Android offerings but I dont know, I don't like how long you wait for Samsung to rehash the latest Android, if at all etc. Thanks fellas, now to find the best price!

    Btw @SimonD, do you have the keyboard and mouse for yours mate? I like the look of them but they're a bit pricey if I'm not going to use them much

    Hi Jim, no I don't have the keyboard / mouse as yet, generally haven't needed it. I do have an older bluetooth keyboard from the SP2 days that would work with it if really needed tho.

    not going to lie, I'm a complete apple fan boy, we have surfaces in our offices at work so I do play with them now and again, they are quite nice to be fair but I always prefer apple for reliability. No doubt your ipad 3 would most likely run on for a few more years.
