Managed to get myself an interview.... at my last employer. I knew they were looking, so emailed the manager to see if he'd be interested.

woot. next monday, so ill need to prepare I suppose. Its not a shoe-in, but hopefully my previous standing will help out.

Good luck, if you left them on good terms then you could have a good chance.

I did. spent a few months pestering them for a dev job, then eventually told them up front that I would have to start looking elsewhere because they didnt have the opportunity I was looking for. They knew it was coming though, and I even had the dev guys help me out with hunting.

So I had my chat with them today. And they made me a verbal offer of 25k. Thats a boost of 3k on my current salary.

They want me to decide if im going to accept the verbal, and once i've done that, they will send me a written offer to accept and make it official.

You haven’t said if you like it or not :blink, but on the surface it sounds good. Have you decided? Best of luck on the path you choose. :)

I like the company in general. I used to work there before, and the only things that really really annoyed me (apart from the (l)users of course) was the job and the money. I would happily have moved through to the development team at the time.

Its an opportunity to work on various different apps, from VB3 (shudder) through to n-tier service based .net apps. I know the team and get on well with them. Overall, it looks like a good opportunity, and would definately be good for me (not to mention more of the green stuff).

Going to think it over for a day or so, but I reckon I'm going to take it.

Sometimes one has to leave to get ahead (climb the ladder). Maybe that was the case here. At least they're willing to take you on again. Some places wouldn't consider it - they see it as admitting to a mistake in letting you go in the first place. Sounds like these guys are bigger than that 8)

    Congrats on the offer :)

Well he was upfront about how he wanted his carrer to go. He is the only one that can lead it in that direction. They didn't have a oppertuinty at the time to offer him now they do. As long as he was a good worker in his past role I really could not see why they would not offer him a job in the role that they do have open now in what he wants. Maybe it is different in the states but most places will give someone a second chance as long as they left on good terms and have a good work record.

WTG Fergal, I hope you enjoy your new job!

If the other company can wait give a 2 week notice if not then 1. But this is something you have wanted for a while fergal with a nice little pay raise. Even though I know that is not your main concern it does sweeten the pot. Bosses are trained to deal with it and have to expect it on some level. People do move on. This may be your only chance there fergal. So this is a gentle but firm nudge. Follow your dreams Fergal...

:biggrin thats true. I'll feel better once I hand in my notice. Im required by contract to give only a week, but to be honest I want to give 3-4 weeks. Whatever happens, I dont want any burning bridges to have been my doing.

its done. handed in my notice this morning. wanted to do it before a meeting with a client, but it had already started when my boss arrived. had to wait until a few minutes ago to do it.

went a lot better than I was imagining, if im honest.

Congrats on the new role, always hard handing in notice, but number 1 is most important.

Glad it went well, maybe in the futurre they could use you out of hours or something, always useful to have contacts ;)
