I've got an interview (YAY!) for a first line tech support role coming up and have a few questions.

The role itself mentions that no experience is required, just a good attitude towards a career in IT. Role involves the usual; call logging, initial diagnosis, escalation, workstation/laptop builds, app installs for clients, etc.

What kind of questions should I be asking?
I know someone's going to say that the interview is a 2-way process and I should be asking things which will allow me to find out if I actually want to work at this company, BUT, with the state of employment as it stands, I'd be more than happy to work here. The pay isn't that amazing, but I'm after the all important experience. With that said, their website portrays them in a good light and they specialise in a few things I'd like to get involved in in the future, so, actually, I would very much like to work there.....

Should I ask about things like their current 1st line fix rate percentage? (Will this help me to determine if I want to work there? No, probably not...)

What kind of systems would I be supporting?
    Support team, how many?
Do you encourage training, send employees on courses...?
(These all seem very generic to me, but am having a hard time coming up with something special....)

Another question: When doing your research on a company, how far should you dig?

As an example, I have found my interviewers Twitter and LinkedIn profiles. Can I/Should I draw information from there to formulate questions? E.g. Twitter (the business related account) makes mention of a few potential things happening at work.

A quick look on CompaniesHouse shows me that they changed name a few years ago, should I ask why?

Also, what kind of questions could I expect to be asked? Is it likely that there'll be some kind of "test"? (considering that the role stipulates no experience (although certs like A+/N+ are listed as desirables))

    Thanks!

    Thanks! :biggrin

They asked the usual kind of things....Tell me about yourself, strengths/weaknesses, etc. We basically went through my CV elloborating on previous roles and experiences with a few tech questions thrown in.

My questions were quite generic too. I did ask one or two related to the Twitter account (see original post.) Hehe, maybe it showed resourcefulness...?

    Can't wait to start :biggrin

    Thanks Notes^

Well, just over a week in to my new job and I can honestly say that none of my certs have helped at all. (Apart from getting me the interview)

Just listening to what kind of questions other tech's ask has been the most helpful thing. (and a bit of common sense!)

It looks like there's a lot of potential to learn a lot at this place. I'm pretty busy all day and quite enjoying it :biggrin
