As a means of gathering more information about a specific job role, industry, work environment, information interviewing is supposed to be the best way.

However, let's say I want to be a database administrator in Liverpool and I have no contacts, how would I be able to find a database administrator and ask questions like:
    1. How did you become a database admin?
    2. How did you find your first job in database admin?
    3. Where are the best places (locations, company size, company sector, company names) to find database admin jobs?
    4. What do employers like most/least?

Does anyone know of any other I.T forums targeted toward career development, where people network with each other and discuss their own career?

There are many on LinkedIn - I suggest you join that and have a look at the various Groups. The IT Job Board run one, Webrecruit.com run another and there's another one called IT Specialist. All of these have various discussions running and you could ask your questions on those.
