I think IE sux but this is my son's laptop. He can connect to the Internet and use IM but he can't open IE and browse. I suspect some nasty virus or malware. I've cleaned the computer to within an inch of it's life but 2 viruses continue to elude me.

I've tried going back to a restore point when IE did work. It worked for about a day and then refused to open again. I have to admit, I haven't really had the time to work on his computer. Has anybody else come across this problem?

It's a long shot Trip, but have you tried running the line that I posted in the Article Section a while back about "de-customising" IE:

    Code:
    rundll32 iedkcs32.dll,Clear
Like I say, you never know - it might just help.

Trip, will IE open in Safe Mode?

If so, I would suspect it has a browser highjacker.

I don't know which versions of malware removal tools you are using. But I would recommend downloading the latest version of Ad-Aware which is Ad-Aware SE Personal edition and the latest definition file is SE1R26 25.01.2005

If you have an older version of the program, the update won't work!

Download it free for personal use..

Same goes for Spybot Search and Destroy. You NEED the latest version of the app, which is 1.3 - and there are loads of updates which the earlier version (1.1) won't find!

    Download ver 1.3 free

There are other apps which boast similar things but mostly they are just rip-offs of these two beauties

Thanks Pete. I installed Ad Aware SE a month or two ago when I tired to clean up his machine the last time. 18 year old boys are a pain in the arse when it comes to their computers.

Don't I know it :biggrin for some reason they just want to download tons of rubbish, mostly cracked software, unpaid for MP3s, bootleg films, not to mention pr0n

Some 49 year old boys are just as bad

ok guys, i hate to be a nitpick but internet ettiquete requires me to point out that its pr0n not pr0n when referencing amongst fellow computer users :)

this ofcourse is the granddaddy word that caused the flux of poor spelling and l33tsp34k c00ln3$$ amongst younger net users :D

how i know these details ofcourse, is irrelivant ;)

So, if I understand it right, if I talk about p0rn then I'm an adolescent teenager looking for it but if I talk about pr0n then I'm a mid 30's computer geek?[IMG]
