Does anyone have any idea how recognised the CREA and CASS certifications are ? Has anyone taken them ?

    http://www.iacertification.org/crea_certified_reverse_engineering_analyst.html
    http://www.iacertification.org/cass_certified_application_security_specialist.html

They are offered by the Information Assurance Certification Review Board (IACRB).

I know they are US based certs, but little else seems to exist in this area and I'd be prepared to travel...

    thanks

    Dave

No idea how recognised they are, in fact, I'v never heard about them until you've mentioned them. So can't help you there.

Wow, you're willing to travel over to the US just to sit an exam?

Good luck mate on your studies :)

With the dollar the way it is at the moment its probably better value than taking a course and paying for a hotel in London. Other options are Cyprus for the CEH but I'd prefer to keep to a software bias.

I've not done any formal professional training courses for about 5 years so I figure I'm overdue.

I'd probably take some time off and do a road trip at the same time if I do go...

Last year I did the west coast, the 101 in California, Oregon and Washington and over the border to Vancouver.

Its to early to say at the moment, ideas are being knocked about still, Route 66 is a possibility, as is the east coast. Friends doing a working holiday out there so plan is to fly out and take things from there... :D

Ok thats hardly a ringing endorsement, mind you, you'd never heard of BEA either so not too sure how to take that ! :D

What about these ones from EC Council :-

    http://www.eccouncil.org/certification.htm

    ECSP
    CSAD

Since the CEH has pretty much taken over, maybe it would be a safer long term bet ?

How are the CEH's finding holding onto their cert, how is the points program ?

Here's Infosec for the UK :) One thing that's a bonus (or was a bonus, as I'm not sure if it still applies) is that Infosec courses can be applied towards postgraduate certificate/diploma's/degrees. For more up to date info, just contact them.

Yes I did find this :-

    http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201002295

Not sure if its for me, think I'd prefer my masters to come from a more recognised University, or at least wait to see what happens.

I've noticed theres lots of Infosec conferences the world over, I don't think that makes them any relation ?

Who can I contact about the MSc credit ?

    thanks

I would actually recommend contacting individual Uni's directly, also found this from the Cabinet Office (Government Dept) - it may be helpful for you?

As Ken said, the particular university you are thinking about studying with.

When I did my bachelor degree, a friend had some credits from a course somewhere, perhaps OU, I can't honestly remember, but my uni did not take them on board at all because they weren't on any scale they could use to compare to his current degree.
