So here's the scope, you remember I told u all I bought a new 19" TFT LCD monitor? Well I kept my old 15" TFT LCD monitor for use on when I am repairing other PCs cos it helps really. but now that I have no other PC to repair I have decided to use the old monitor alongside my new one. I guess I am lucky cos one is using a D-SUB connector and the other is using a DVI connector and since the new graphics card (well second hand but better than my old one!) has both connectors I now have a continous screen as it were. As I am typing this I have my main 19" with the TV and MSN Messenger on display and on the 15" yep you guessed it I have the IE browser window on display. I think its amazing I am able to do this as I didnt think it would work in the first place. so now instead of having a lot windows on one screen I can move them over to the 15" and watch the TV or a DVD without having to worry about what the other program is doing.

Anyone else done this before or even doing it now as we speak? I just wondering maybe if anyone has more than 2 monitors?
    *hint hint Mr Coates* :p

    Please nug, 19?
    20inch @ 1600x1200 ;)

the card powering the third monitor is a reallly old Hercules 4000 Kyro thing (they were a short lived competitor to nVidia at the low end of the market)

unfortunatly its a tad slow, and doesnt really handle the resolution, or the TFT very well (no support for clear type, etc) so ill look to replace that with an nVidia low end PCI offering whenever i can

Cant argue with the above, it makes working on multiple tasks VERY easy.

I webbrowse in one, do my general work in the center, use the third for a second browser/winamp/VMWare if its turned on, so i can run it in fullscreen :)

4s a headache in a non corporate setting due to graphics card requirements
id need a dual output AGP/PCIe card (common) and a dual output PCI card (uncommon, or if u went for a matrox, expensive) in an investment bank its one thing to get a Quad output card that costs 500 quid, for me its a bit overkill

3s a good number for home enthusiasts such as myself
2s becoming more and more common place

there is a screen shot available here noel http://www.rbanet.co.uk/mmmonitor.jpg
course that was taken before i managed to get the third monitor plugged in by sorting out the Kryo PCI card from a mate

Ok I have had this set up for a while now and really happy with it. However can anyone tell me is it possible to mirror the screen at all? If so how can it be done? thanks all.

    depends on the graphics card
nvidia cards have options available for it within the nvidia control panel, same with ATI i believe
although that would be a remarkable waste of desktop real estate ;)

yeah I hear what you're saying Phoenix mate...its a Tyan Tachyon ATI 9600 Pro AGP card I have with DVI and VGA connectors. comes with 128MB RAM aswell..but I havent fully checked to see if it can do mirror screen yet...but I am loving the extended desktop so even if I dont find the mirror bit of it I am happy with what I have now..thanks tho mate.

have u installed the latest Catalyst drivers? with the ATI control panel?
the card does not provide the functionality, the drivers do
