So I managed to get one server for my lab at home. I got my boss to get me a loaner for 6-12 months for testing/studying.

CPU: AMD Athlon Dual Core 4450B 2.3Ghz
    RAM: Kingston 4GB of RAM
    Seagate: 2 x 160GB SATA2 hard drives
    NIC: 1GB integrated NIC

I've setup ESXi and running it with VI. So far I've set it up as Win2k3 server environment for studies... as well I installed Wink28 for testing. I will be using it as lab for when I do deployment at work and as a study lab. It was really hard finding this kind of server for only 500$ CAD. Great price!

I was also thinking of setting up Openfiler to play around with... I don't know how much I'll benefit, given my setup but I was always curious to use it.

Gonna order a ML115 Quad Core (1354) with 8GB RAM on Thursday. Not sure on what config to have for my hard drives tho. Any advice? Oh and has anyone added a graphics card or sound card to one of these (just wondering)??

I have my hard drives in raid 1.... to be honest I have my desktop pc with a 500gb hd that is also in raid 1 so the server is going to be used mainly for testing/studying...

I was thinking of getting a netgear nas device...

So now I have it up and running, finally after two days of migrating my vmware server 2.0 vm's to the esxi server and I have to admit, it's well worth it... I found that vmware vcenter converter does a great job and fast too! I am in the process of configuring the resource pool and then I am good to go...
