    It not "software raid", its FakeRAID.. i think

    what there really saying is get a separate controller because it doesn't currently work.

    "Hardware raid" is controlled by software also. But then software is just an idea, it is all electric charge stored in capacitors. The software raid just has another layer to go through before it hits the actual hardware.

    Thats is true at the end of the day its all software.

    However, the terms above software raid, fakeraid and hardware raid describe three very different methods of providing RAID.

    software raid - software or OS provides RAID functionality , run by the systems main CPU

    fakeraid - is often a cheap form of embedded software raid, runs in firmware on motherboards, often the functionality is handed over to the os via drivers,majority is run by the systems main CPU

    hardware raid - software running on a dedicated RAID platform, CPU independent
