I might be wrong but I doubt it, possible at a lower res, see here for info on resolutions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution

No, you would get 1 x 800 x 600 desktop and everything will look really big and retarded!

Resolution is the basically the number of pixels used on the width and length of an image. An image that is 800 x 600 will only use 800 x 600 pixels on screen unless you zoom in/out of it. When you zoom you will notice the resolution changes because the 800 x 600 information then has to match a larger or smaller area. The same pixel information either gets squeezed together when you zoom out, or stretched across a larger distance when you zoom in, hence blocky edges.

A windows desktop does not have dead pixel space so when you use an 800 x 600 resolution on a desktop set to 1600 x 1200, the pixel information has to be stretched across a larger number of pixels and ends up looking pants!

You may be able to find some software that will emulate 4 separate desktops for you but I can not see why you would want this??

What are you trying to do exactly? Maybe we can offer a different solution?

If all you're asking is if you can open 4 application windows and have them take up an area of 800x600 pixels each you can get 4. If you're wanting to run 4 separate windows at 800x600 resolution, no, that isn't possible with any of the lcd monitors I've seen.

You could open up 4 windows and stretch them to fit. You can link up more than one monitor displaying different images I am not sure what you use software wise to do this but I do know someone who has 4 monitors on his PC I'll find out.
