My current role requires me to give more presentations which had me thinking, how long should I prepare for each one.

My general rule of thumb is to spend ten hours preparing for every hour I need to present. How about you?

To make it more interesting, what is the maximum number of people that you have presented to physically so in a room, not online. Mine is only about 30 but I'll be volunteering for bigger opportunities when available

The way I always present is to run through the presentation a number of times until you're happy with the way it's going to go, take up 'notes', by that I mean a couple of index cards with just short notes on it so prompt you, finally don't just read from the powerpoint, your attendees can do that just as well as you can.

Once you're happy with the presentation then you're ready to present it.

I have done about 50 people, it was a company presentation on our new Cloud initiative and I hated it, I hadn't prepared well (I didn't take notes, a lesson learned as I was trying to mimic my CIO who is an awesome presenter who never needs notes and failed).

Usually get pulled into these things at the last minute and have zero time to prepare – oh well. :)
