I sat through an interesting presentation last week where they went on about moores law so in ten years the average computing power will be 64 x what it is today, allowing for ever increasing Artificial Intelligence. Cut a long story short it's possible AI can replace a lot of us, where it's able to connect the dots not just access a database of resolutions. Who knows what will happen but it was very interesting stuff

It doesnt mean it will definitely happen in the next decade but its alarming how fast AI is coming of age

    I think within the next 5 - 10 years

it technical staff at msps will be more like consultants with the cloud getting bigger and bigger.

Cloud migration like moving resources from on premise to the cloud will be a huge advantage.

Mobile management will be a huge thing as everyone has a phone these days.

I reckon things will get more complex and complicated as years go through

    Exciting times !

Got to stay up to date with technology

I dunno about the cloud really.. surely there will always be security risks that aren't worth taking.

There will still be people on XP because it "just works" - lol :)

I think with BT announcing the end of ISDN in 10 years (maybe) there should be a massive migration to SIP - chance to start using Skype and other providers as a company phone system which brings us IT people into the picture.

Ok... So say the role of an IT tech would fall into decline due to A.I.. what skills/knowledge would be handy to gain in preparation for this scenario?

Impossible to say mate but I would imagine architecture and design are a safe bet long term. Or at least that's what I'm hoping. Then when the terminators come in I can be a servant of our new overlords ha ha

Really AI is a worry, to me anyway, I cannot win an argument with ALICE or any other bot that i have encountered over the years. They have the computing power to out-think you and absolutely no emotions, so they will be like Vulcans but with no agenda of their own, just clever machines. Hawkins knows this, as do other scientists, it is very scary.
