Iam having abit of an issue with getting the web banner logo for my site done. The sites offline now untill I finish off some vids and sort the payments for the hosting pack. Ive pretty much done all the techy stuff like php and javacript done. plus the layout on where everythings going.
Iam never ever going to complain how bad a website is designed after this :biggrin

I just have no artistic skill to create a nice professional logo for the site and its the last thing on my list :(
I tried many times, it looks awful and I also asked some friends but they have other important stuff like work and Uni which I dont want to be a burden on.
I got the standard ms paint and jasc paint shop pro. Can anyone advise how I can finish the logo or point me in the right direction?

I don't have any artistic skill either... I resorted to using the professional services of Logoworks.

I used this site before and it is free. I made a hellaish logo one year for a local dirtbike track here. Lets you use different fonts, style, and it is easy.

I've done a few logos in the past, but I don't claim to be an expert.

What seems to work best is to actually use the name of the site or company.
It may sound daft, but logos which are just an abstract design only work if you're really famous like BT or Apple.

Try experimenting with text, I use dafont.com for inspiration. Find a font that reflects the style of your site - if you're talking about WWII tanks, use a bold stencil etc.

Keep it simple - too much fuss such as drop shadow or glow gets messy. Try something crisp and clean. Remember, one day you may need to get this printed on paper or use it on a different colour background. Bear that in mind before you start and save yourself hours of grief later.

Then introduce something to add interest or break up words. Our CF logo is a good example, as is Microsoft with just the tiny cut out to highlight the break.

If you have a site which can be easily identified with an object, such as goldfish collecting, a bakery or paperclip manufacturing, you're laughing. Bold cartoon style images work well, grainy clip art does not.
If you want something more subtle you can fade it out or put it in greyscale.

If your site is a bit more vague, then it's difficult. Look for inspiration in the name, or even your home town for identifying colours or icons.

And be prepared to do lots of them...

    Hey bud,

I'll help you out if you want me to.

Believe it or not i'm actually an internationally selling artist and i've also done a bit of web design. Funny enough, i'm just working on a new site where i will offer logo design but it's going slowly at the moment.

In a previous role i used to be Manager of a Sign and Design store and i've literally done thousands upon thousands of design projects for clients.

If you want me to take a look and you are not in any kind of mad rush, i'll gladly try and help out.

sure no probs, Iam still in the expremental stages so it be awhile :)

I acutually dont think its a daft idea, its a cliche or something but it does work. I talked to my bro who use to do art or something and told me the exact same thing. if the logo is distict like a corp logo like coke or the shell logo you know its related to that. which is way I gone back to the drawing board with my pencil and paper just to draw some ideas. its coming along great, I got alot of time on my hands since Ive been lay of work but I just would like to get it out the way and focus finishing it.

Thanks for the assitants, I keep it in mind. Iam already started but if I really do mess this up I gladly ask you to help me finish it :)
