    Hey guys. I was just sat here looking through the forums and it struck me, why not have a CF IRC Channel. It could be somwhere to idle for all the members and chat. It would probably a great way for us all to network and just chit chat? Has it been suggested before, or alternatively has it been tried and failed?

    I have set up a few IRC channels in the past on quakenet for gaming clans etc, so I dont mind starting it and getting the L bots and what not. Just want your opinions are preferably a go ahead from an admin so im not stepping on anyones toes. We could try it for a few days and see how it works out, it wont cost us anything.

    Let me know what you think.

    Cheers

    Yeah saw the chatroom, but never see anyone in it. With IRC people at home or at work can just idle in the channel and join in on any chats they like.

    For instance I idle in certain clan rooms on irc and join in if the conversation intrests me.

    u know I like the sound of this...it would suit me better too..I hardly have time to go into the chat room (well I dont go in there at all!) but an IRC channel would be ideal...

    Right there is 1 person in support of this idea. Anyone else? It would be so easy to implement and may benefit some of the members, if not all.

    Not for me, not a big fan of real time chat.

    Sounds like a nice idea for those who do tho! :biggrin

    Should I set up a test channel then to see if people would use it? Could run it for the next 48 hours and see what kind of response it gets?

    Give me the green light and Ill start a test channel.

    Hi

    I'm quite new to this. I wonder if somebody could explain what irc is and how it differs from a chat room?

    Many Thanks

    IRC = Internet Relay Chat.

    I would say that it is one of the original forms of chat on the 'net!

    Unfortunately the protocol was not very secure, so it was targetted by many of the nastier parts of the Internet community, to the point where many who ran it lost interest and let it fragment.

    On the PC one of the more popular IRC clients is mIRC .
