    Hi

    I've just joined. I used to be a teacher many years ago. Now kids are at secondary school I'm looking for a new career. My husband thought software testing would be good so I studied for that but have no job experience. I am now looking for something much more basic. I thought Comp TIA might be useful so I understood more basic stuff. We have just upgraded our computer so I have an old one to play with.

    Not sure if I'll manage to get a basic job but I'm sure the skills I pick up will come in handy somewhere.

    Hi and welcome to the forums!

    When I was applying for jobs two of the 'hottest' markets for graduates were software testing/analyst and technical support. If becoming a tester is something you would really like to do then you should pursue it! If however you want to go into technical support then the A+ is a good place to start (it is less recognised in the UK so you may also considered the microsoft certs for entry level work).

    What did you teach?

    CompTIA are good basic certs to start with.

    Thanks everyone. I used to teach RE so no relevance to IT. Hoping A+ will help give me some background as well as possible entry point. I'm also hoping to go for other certification as well but one step at a time, perhaps.

    The A+ is a great starting point as is network+ and MCDST. Do not be afraid to start looking for jobs now though employers are just as interested in someone who is working towards certifications and having an intrest in IT as they are as someone who already has some certs.

    That been said though someone who has certs will have the edge but then again someone who has certs and experience will have the edge over that person. So start applying for positions as soon as possible look for trainee positions or positions that will have training this will complement your studies too.
