Hi to everyone. I'm thinking of a career change into web design as my teaching career stalled last year. I started making websites as a hobby years ago, but my knowledge stops at a basic level so I've just bought what I hope are some decent books on various languages and software so I can learn things my own way. Maybe I'll try doing a certification via the self-study route too, but I'd like to actually see a job advert asking for one first, especially the CIW as I'm not convinced it's even recognised in the UK.

I've just started an A+ course at a college in London as I thought I might have greater success finding a first job in support, but having started it, am no longer so sure. I've looked into some distance-learning CIW, ACE and MCTS courses, ending in some confusion as to what is and isn't recognised, wanted at all or worth spending any money trying to achieve. I found this forum while researching SkillsTrain and boy, am I glad I did. Very interesting and not at all good. I've been in touch with a few other training providers who charge a similar amount for their services. One can apparently guarantee a job at the end and another said I'd find it difficult to find a job without them. That may be true, but honestly, £5000... just how good can these people be :blink

    Hi and welcome.

I would not recommend skillstrain, computeach etc as they are very over priced.

This forum is excellent and a great place for help and advice (or just pointless chatter).:biggrin

    Hi Welcome :)

Don't go with a training provider, all they do is give you some books which you can get yourself and they charge you a lot for it.

Welcome. I agree with the others; that's an awful lot to pay for courses. I'd recommend self-study methods.
