Hello guys and girls! My name's Steve and I've been working in IT for just over 20 years (17 years as self employed). I've supplied, installed and managed networks from NetWare 286 right up to Windows 2003 Server. Despite my experience however, I have no formal IT certifications

I'm now looking for a change in direction and moving towards the contracts market. As such, I felt that an MCSE would be the best way forward. I bought a few of the self study aids (CBT Nuggets etc..) but have found that my motivation and time are just too limited. I've therefore booked myself on a 2 week course (with exams) in November with The Training Camp (anyone used them?) Hopefully by mid November I'll be sorted!

Browing the web and came across this place. You seem like a nice, friendly bunch so I signed up!

Hey Steve - welcome to CF

I have used the Training Camp - I did my CEH course with them in Charlbury. I found it very good (apart from the X Factor being filmed there at the same time, with stupid talentless teenagers wailing all night long in the hotel there were a couple of (ahem) 'incidents' involving me threatening to kill people

I live in Croydon too - what a shithole eh?

I'm off on my course this coming weekend. I've been told that MS are offering free retakes at the moment as well, so fingers crossed!

Hi Welcome,

 

Well I'm back as a proud MCSE! It was very hard work (12-14 hour days for 2 weeks solid) but I learn't a great deal and plugged a few holes in my knowledge base.

I would thoroughly recommend The Training Camp (or Firebrand as they're now called) but you need to have a good deal of experience under your belt before attempting this. Four guys out of six passed all of the exams, and they were all sysadmins in their daily jobs.

I have only imagine that 20 years of experience in IT was what pulled you through in the end. No one lacking that level of experience could have pulled it off. Congratulations.
