    Hi there everyone

found this place after doing a quick search on Advent IT Training as I've an advisor coming round at 1.00pm today and wondering if its a waist of time, im currently working as a MLA in Pathology comuting a 100 mile round trip per day 5 days a week..... Time for a change I think.... I've worked previously as a Security Officer for the NHS, Door Supervisor, Postman and before that at the age of 23 a Residental Lettings Manager.
Just looking to get some creditable qualifications to help me move on

    Hi Welcome :)

What do you want to do in IT?

When the salesman comes to your house take evrything he/she has to say with a pinch of salt after all if you have cash they want it.

A couple of tips, if they offer you say the MCSE certification and you do not have experience of working and supporting a multi user multi server environment ask him/her why they are trying to sell you that since it is a certification for people who are actually pros who have lots of experience.

If they say they can gaurantee you a job ask how they can do this?

Don't sign anything untill you are completley sure, maybe post back on here and say what the salesman said.

Do not fall for the we only have a few places left trick either, if you want to sign, then they want your money they will wait for your acceptance.

Also consider self study, as most of these places charge you loads of money then give you some books to read which is what self study is but you dont pay anyone loads of money.

Thanks for the quick replies, Im totally open to any suggestions and advise, thats why ive fallen into the 'can we send an advisor round' senario with Advent, im currently of work sick with achillies tendonitus and had time to think about what I want and what can I do, ive little experience other than GCSE's and home pc ( letter writing, online gaming, email etc). I was advised by my uncle some time ago to look into IT work and get on it so any help is appreciated

what in IT do you want to do? Most people start in somesort of support role so the best certs to start of with are compTIA A+, compTIA N+ and Microsofts MCDST and no further until you have relevant experience. You could also look at your local college and see what qualifications they have to offer.

    Thanks again Greenbrucelee

I realise that you cant just do an exam and expect a 40,000 pa job, i would be looking into some of the things you have advised in a support role.

good, IT is crap pay until you get experience 12k - 16k for your first job. Don't let them overcertify you as this can make getting a job harder.
