    Hi,

I've just signed up with Advent Computer Training to start training for a new job in IT. I was wondering if anyone on here has used Advent before and can offer any advice as to how they got on etc...

    Cheers

    Hi Welcome :)

There are many threads about advent on CF if you use the search feature you will find them.

Is this a promise by advent that you will get a highly paid job at the end of your training?

And what course are you doing as often these places usually put you on courses that you should only be doing if your experience merits it.

And Grant most of them are negative 'cus like most training providers all they're after is your hard earned cash. If there's a get out clause that you can activate NOW, I'd strongly recommend doing so.

Whichever certification you're looking to obtain through Advent, it's possible to "acquire" with the self-study method of learning. It's a hell of a lot cheaper and you can "trod along" at your own pace.

    Welcome to the forums!

I don’t know about Advent in particular, but if using a training partner is how you study best, I’d suggest reading the materials before hand and be prepared. :study
Some training centers move at a quick pace (at least on some topics), once you’re lost, it may be hard to get into the rhythm again - then it's playing catch-up for the remainder.

The course I've started is Certified Database Specialist. I'm currently CompTIA A+ Essentials (220-601). The sales pitch was that there would a be a decent paid job in IT at the end of it which they will help set up. Must admit I was very sceptical at the start and still am to some degree but I started now so will have to see it through. Must admit I've found the introduction easy but the second part A+ Essentials has been a lot harder. At times it's like reading a foreign language but it's slowly falling into place once I re-read things a few times. Am I right to assume that most people think training this way is a bad idea?

    I'd appreciate any commments.
