How was day two. Another 1000 email to sift through or did you get to use the coffee percolator. :D

SpOoKy, Si :shocked I was just about to post a "Day 2" thread.

Much better (eventually). Morning was a nighmare learning the various systems we use to ID/track users' internet account via the many ISPs we host.

Afternoon saw me finally begin to see the light, and even take a couple of calls too. Later, we (Tech) were called in to a meeting (feeling of dread)...

"In two weeks time, there will be no more 1st Line Support at this site - moving it to Pakistan"

    Oh, B00dy H€ll, I thought.

"But good news for you, Gav - you'll be moved up to 2nd line, and the 4 of you will be THE Tech Support team for all ISPs"

Crikey, so in the space of an afternoon, I learn (some of) the system, take calls AND get promoted :?: :?: :?:

Not that I'm a cynic, but I'm suffering from the effects of salt overload tonight. If it comes good, then wow - talk about right place, right time.

But in the meantime, I'll just keep my head down and take in all I can over the next week or so. And, hey - I even got to fix a blokes e-mail probs - he was ****-a-hoop :!:

Maybe, I hope so. It's a while till I see the first lot

I'll just take more salt in the meantime :?

At least I feel like I'm looking forward to going in tomorrow - thats an improvement.

Keep it going Gav. One thing I have learnt in this industry is never be afraid to ask for help, no matter what the problem is. That's either work colleagues or here. Everyone is in the same boat and NO-ONE knows everything

I got two dejection letters today for IT jobs.
I'd give anything just for a start right now :(

Just glad that some people are getting a chance.
Make the most of it Jak, go do CertForums proud :!:

Sorry to hear that, Flex - I know exactly the feeling.

Believe me, I am proud of where I am, albeit 2 days in. I will always fly the flag for CertForums - it has helped me no end, in knowledge, and in confidence.

Keep it up, Flex - if I can , YOU can :D

    :iagree

Flex, your time will come. I was almost in the same position as you just over 12 months ago. In a job I hated and applying for anything in IT.

Something will come up, you just have to bide your time and keep on believing. :!: :!:

And you know that this place is here to cheer you up!

Yeah I will keep on going.Knowing that others are getting opportunities gives me hope.

Wasn't nice to get two rejection letters along with a letter telling me to that my CDL £4000 loan has to be started being paid back in Feb (yeah right, no chance).

Does bad news always come in three's

Ahh well, it'll sort itself out :D

    Flex

Get on to your CDL people and see if the repayments can be deferred for a time. It can be done as you are re-training for a change in career and not got a job in that industry.

    But keep your chin up.

I always found that not too hard too take - at least they have the decency to write back.
It's the ones that dontreply that you really want to p1ss on :x

And, yup- I go with AJ - your CDL people will talk to you about deferring paying back. Just investigate your options.

    Chin up, Flex :)

Yeah I'm going to ring them.I have no choice, that's what I'll have to do.

I've just gotta get my MCP's, then I'll be more desireable to employers.
I'm just going to concentrate on my last preparation stages for the exams, shouldn't be long now.
I know having no expereince and no certs is going against me, nevertheless I still get some positive responses, so they must appreciate what I'm doing with self study.

    It'll happen :D

What is this "salt" thing you keep talking about? Is this another UK slang term inserted just to drive me mad???

Hang tough, flex. I know exactly how you feel. Believe me, getting those letters is rough. Right now, I'm "between jobs" and it's just miserable. I've sent out about 1000 messages saying "GIVE ME WORK AND NOBODY GETS HURT!!!" so now we'll just have to see. Got a few interesting nibbles and a small bite I'll talk about (the bite, anyway) in the jobs forum below. It'll happen. Just don't give up.

Flex - I am sure this is true! Get your head down and get those exams done and then you'll be in with a fighting chance. I know it's hard but try not to worry too much - things have a way of coming right if you persist - look at Jak - whom I must now also congrats to for getting promoted on day 2! Wow, you must make a good cup of coffee or something.....

Trip - are you really putting this????? And have you really sent out 1000 or are you exaggerating a little??

    DAY 3:
Yup, I would appear to most deff be 2nd Level :D

Got my hands (ears ?) a bit more dirty today - think I might get to enjoy this job ! Still haven't made a single cup of coffee, either (maybe thats why I'm level 2 !)

Anyway, I only managed once today for 20 seconds - didn't even get to the boards, so I haven't even got a note of the 31 posts since my last visit

Will keep you all informed, and GOOD LUCK Flex & Trip :thumbleft

Hah! Maybe at least Si's post count will finally catch up to yours! :D

Glad to hear you're having a good time of it. Wait until you have to deal with your first angry customer who can't connect and wants you to fix it for them. My last week in my old job, I had one of the "educated" guys from upstairs ask me if they could use instant messenger without an ISP or telephone (or cable or satelite) service. Seems his daughter wanted to instant message with a friend but he didn't want to have it cost him anything. :scratch :hhhmmm :confused3
