I just spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why I could not storage vMotion one of the VM's disks to a new LUN, then I figured out that I forgot to check for snapshots... I need a break, so tired today...

I had rebuilt an Exchange 2007 server and set everything up but incoming mail wasn't working. Spent ages trying to figure out why.

In the end I had failed to configure an accepted domain, what a plonker LOL

Upgrade to vSphere5 and you can svMotion even with snapshots.

It is annoying when you overthink a problem though and it turns out to be a simple thing.

Done similar - spent 15 hours debugging why mail wasn't flowing through a gateway/sweeper - eventually found out the link out of our building on this system was a fixed line and the router needed rebooting after a power outage.

It didn't help the fact that we didn't know this was how it was connected, nor that the room the router was in even existed let alone it was 2 floors below us!

All the more satisfying when you do get it though.

I agree with dales. Upgrade to vSphere5, VMware vSphere 5 will support up to 1 TB of RAM and 32 virtual CPUs per VM

Can you not storage vmotion when there are existing snapshots for a VM then? Still learning about vmware, just got vsphere 5 :)
