Ive been handed a router at work for christmas and i need to get on and configure th e router. Unfortunatley the router has been configured and copied to ram. This means it has a secret password set to enter privilaged mode.

How the hell can i reset the router to factory defualts, i mean i cant get into privialged mode to do anything and no-one at work knows the password.

There must be some way ive been scrolling through pages and pages on the cisco website but cant find much there is an article to reset or erase the nvram but u need to be in privilaged mode. i know you can use the wr er command but i cant get in help help help
    please

    regards

    Daniel

Cicso usualy has articles on their site on how to reset the unit to factory conditions when the password has been lost.

I don't know about that particular model, but I have seen pages with the info for other devices.

    Hi,

    Reboot the router
    while its rebooting press ctrl+brk

you will be in ROMMON mode

    depending on version

    > o/r 0x2142 enter or confreg 0x2142
    > i (initialize or reboot ) or reset

now you will be in 2142 mode

    > en

    # copy start run

Heres where you enter your config, change the password etc

before doing anything youll need to reset the conifg register to 0x2102
( or youll end in rommon mode again loosing all config s )

    Heres how
    (config t )# config-register 0x2102
    ctrl z
    # reload

    Hope this helps
