Well this is the first of hopefully many posts in CertForum where I will pick the brains of all you knowledgeable people out there and get me to the standard that you are at. And why am I doing this you may well ask, I am 44 this year and currently not working due to suffering complications following chemotherapy treatment in 2004. I have bee ntold I will not work again so to try and stop my brain rotting and myself going mad I am currently undertaking a level 2 City & Guilds course as an IT Practioner which is due to finish in July then following on from this I am looking to do the A+ course as home study.

So any help, suggestions on books, courses, recommendations will be greatfully appreciated. Sadly I am now on a low income so if you know a way around this as well apart from winning the lottery, robbing a bank etc. I am all ears.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you all.
    Andy

I'd recommend the A+ All-in-One Study Guide Sixth Edition by Meyers and PC Technician Street Smarts by Pyles.

    Hi andyrooo:D

Find out where your local Further Education College is and see what courses they run, as your on a low income most will be able to offer you a (big) reduction on fees, most run pc maintenance courses that lead to A+. Most colleges have a fund to help pay costs for students like yourself, often called the welfare fund.

You may also want to try (as it can be free) The European Computer Driving Licence which covers 7 modules including Basic Concepts of Information Technology (IT), Using the Computer and Managing Files, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentations & Information & Communication. ECDL is a worthy course to take.

    Hope this help.
