 Ive been searching for a long time for a set of Forums like this one.

Im a 25 year old bloke from Canberra Australia who has been working in computer retail as a repair technician for 8 years.

I currently have NO certifications, so my career opportunites are very limited at the moment. I am keen to finally get my butt into gear and become certified and this looks like a great site to come for help and advice, as I am still a little unclear of a lot of things.

I have recently applied for a Diploma of Network Engineering with Spherion, but was unable to start because of finacial reasons (didnt have the 15 grand to throw around).

Now, I am looking at other (cheaper) options. I am interested more in a support role as it is what I have been doing since I was 17.

I am just starting a MCSE course and was glad to find this site as i was unaware of anyone else doing it and a bit wary of the company i went with but after being here for about ten minutes my mind was at peace with the matter so i feel its very good to be here. Sorry for rambling heehee [IMG]

Welcome to Certforums Eman. You probably already know this but there are various different paths down the road to certification some much more expensive than others. If you need any advice there's no shortage of people round here who are prepared to provide it, ask away :)

Hey, thanks to all who replied!:D

Most of my experience has been with repairing/troubleshooting and building white box computers as well as a medium amount of small office networking.
I have no knowlege or interest in Linux.

Im still a bit unsure of what I want to do in the long term, but I figured for now I will just start with the A+ Hardware/OS and A+ Networking. Then maybe re-access my situation when I have those certifications.

For the A+, I am thinking about buying the A+ All-in-one exam guide by Michael Meyers. as it seems to be the main one people talk about when studying for the A+ exams. (its also reasonably priced).

I recently contacted Self-Cert (www.selfcert.com.au). They are offering a complete online "self paced" training course for the MCSE for $4700au (1800 pounds). But I have no idea if it is worth it or even if they are a reputable company. If anyone here has used Self-Cert, what are they like?

A big problem is being bombarded by all the various training companies offering "The best career solution for you! GUARENTEED!"
