    Hi everyone,

My name is Ian. I live in Georgia, US.

I have an Associate Degree in Computer Information Systems with concentration in Windows Server 2003.

I'm currently enrolled in a Bachelor Degree program at a 4 year university, and working on A+ cert.

I'll also be working on MSCE and CCNA but as far as the CCNA and everything Cisco, I am a complete clueless newb so I was glad to find this forum.

I hope to learn a lot here and be able to return the favor later by helping others. I'm a big fan of community forums.

Welcome from the long, skinny state to your immediate northwest.

You don't mention whether you have any real-world IT experience, so I'll unpack my standard warnings and lay them at your feet...

It's good that you're learning a bunch of stuff... but know that getting a bunch of certifications before you've got the appropriate amount of real-world experience really isn't a good idea. In fact, being overcertified can make it MORE difficult, not LESS difficult, for you to get your first IT job. Companies with MCSE-level or CCNA-level jobs won't hire you because you don't have real-world IT experience, and companies with entry-level jobs won't hire you because you 1) look too expensive, or 2) look like you're not going to stay there very long (whereby they'd have to find/hire/train someone all over again).

What I would recommend is that you work while you're going to school to build up the real-world experience that employers desire - even if it takes you longer to finish school. Sure, certifications and degrees are great... but nothing beats experience, and nothing can take the place of experience - not certifications, and not degrees.

Start looking for an entry-level IT job now. Certifications that you could pursue that are relevant to entry-level jobs are the A+, Network+, and MCDST certifications. I'd suggest you build some experience before moving past those.

By the way... what is the MSCE? Check your acronyms... ;)

    Again, welcome!
