    Hi,

I wanted to introduce myself and explain a little bit about why I am here.

I'm looking to try and change career completely and get into IT. Like many others I looked around online and found Advent. I had the meeting at my house and to be honest was pretty impressed by the representative. No hard sell although lots of percentages were banded about in the conversation - 97% placement record, 30% increased demand for IT professionals, etc...

Once the representative had left I started researching for myself. Advent had suggested I take the Web Development (CIW) course. In the meeting printouts from online job searches were produced that showed 20,000 IT jobs within the UK, of these 2,000 were within 25 miles of my home. However, if I entered keywords of 'developer' the numbers drop to around 100. If I enter 'junior' or 'trainee' the hits went down to around 3-4. Of these I couldn't find any that didn't ask for some experience.

I then found these forums. I'm trying to read as much as I can from the differing posts. I have decided not to us a TP (for now) and am planning on self study for the CompTIA A+. To be honest my thought is if my initial study goes well I may sign up for a more structured course afterwards.

I wanted to say thanks for the wealth of information that is already on here and hopefully it will help me in my ongoing learning.

    Hi Welcome :)

Self study is a good option but if you really want to do a course then I would suggest looking at your local college and not a Training provider.

    Hi, and welcome to CF.
As someone who self-studied the A+ I can heartily recommend it.

    Best of luck!
