Hi Folks

This is my first post on CertForums and on a certification forum.

Lately my certification has been Cisco orientated although I had 4 NT4 MCPs and 2 Win2k MCPs.

I failed the 642-642 Implementing QOS this morning and I will be drowning my sorrows tonight.

I look forward to chatting and discussing certs etc with you all.

If you haven't tackled the CCNP already, I'd recommend doing that before pursuing the CCVP.

I'd recommend the same.
The Profs / Instructors that I know have mentioned to at least get the BSCI and BCMSN before the CCVP.

Too bad on the unsuccessful attempt, hopefully next time.

Hi - Yeah thanks!

I am a lapsed CCNP - I did retake my CCNA though.
I've been into the voice side since CCM2, Unity 2.4.6 and the geotel branded IPCC
Although my last role was 4 years (too long!) and didn't include any CCM.

I got CCM4.12 and Unity 2-port demo running on a couple of mini-itx VIAs and was selling off my 2600/FXO FXS gear on Ebay when Cisco sent me a mailshot about the CCM4 CCVP track and I had a (belated!) change of heart!

I'm not sure what happened with the QOS test - I read the Cisco Press book for 642-642 cover to cover and was passing the enclosed prep test 100% - the exam just seemed totally at odds with what I learned, the materials I had.

I'm having another crack next week (Cisco give me a free retake!) but I don't want to waste another study week with the wrong emphasis on materials.

Thanks for your replies guys, and if anyone has any prep suggestions for QOS I'm all ears!

 

The new CCNP isn't "your father's CCNP"... man, it's difficult! I've been a CCNP since '02, and some of this stuff I'm learning is brand new to me. It's like they took the "easy stuff" on the CCNP and moved it to the CCNA, and filled in the "vacant space" with harder material.

Similarly, I'd guess the QoS is pretty darn difficult.

Well, you've got some experience with it... so it's not like this stuff is new to you. Have you tried any practice exams for 642-642?

I had a (relatively) alcohol free week, stuck my head in Boson and the CCO and passed my QOS exam today, a week later! Phew!
